- Wonderland from RAM for 4MB owners

- Installation instructions by Richard G.Hallas

- ____________________________________________________
-
- I was prompted to create this setup after finding
- out that Wonderland would not run from my SCSI hard
- disc. I believe that the same will be true for IDE
- drives, but even if you have an ADFS hard disc, if
- you have the memory to run Wonderland from a RAM
- disc, the operation of the program is much smoother.
-
- To avoid having to use the rather tedious Install
- procedure for RAM each time you run the game, you
- can follow these instructions to make the procedure
- completely automatic:
-
- 1. Copy the whole of THIS directory ("!Wondrland")
- to wherever on your hard disc you want to keep the
- game.
-
- 2. Create an empty 2336K RAM disc and insert Wonder-
- land disc ONE. Run the Install program, and install
- the game onto your RAM disc by entering "RAM:" in
- place of "ADFS::4" when prompted.
-
- 3. <SHIFT>-double click on THIS directory to open it
- and MOVE the entire contents of the RAM disc into it
- by dragging with <SHIFT> held down.
-
- 4. Also copy into this directory a copy of the
- "MemAlloc" module. You can find a copy of it in the
- "!Lander" game on Applications disc 2 supplied with
- your computer.
-
- 5. The situation should now be that you have on your
- hard disc a directory called "!Wondrland" which
- contains "!wonderla", the RAM-installed version of
- the game. It should also contain these files:
- !Boot, !Help, !Run, !Sprites, CheckRAM, CheckRAMFS
- and MemAlloc.
-
- 6. You can, if you wish, delete the two BASIC files
- called "Config" and "Re_init" in the "!wonderla"
- directory, as you are unlikely to need them.
-
- That should be it. In future, when you want to play
- Wonderland, simply double-click on "!Wondrland", and
- sit back. All necessary files will be copied across
- into RAM, and the game will operate very smoothly.
-
- There are a few points to note:
-
- 1. The single restriction of this system is that ALL
- files saved from Wonderland, be they SAVED GAMES or
- LAYOUTS, should be saved WITHIN the "!wonderla"
- directory in RAM. They will be copied back to the
- hard disc when you quit the game. NOTE: you MUST
- remember to select 'Quit' from the game's menu when
- you have finished (i.e. don't press <RESET>), or
- else your saved files will be left in the RAM disc
- and lost.
-
- 2. Wonderland from RAM disc requires a great deal of
- memory, and before running it you should quit any
- other applications, and reduce the size of the
- system sprites and font cache as much as possible.
- The automation procedure will warn you if not enough
- memory is available to run the game.
-
- 3. Before running Wonderland, the RAM disc should be
- either not configured or empty. (It doesn't matter
- if it isn't, but you should play safe and save data
- before starting.)
-
- A final word:

-
- These files may NOT be copied with the automation
- program.
-
- The automation program consistes only of the
- following files:
-
- !Wondrland.!Boot
- !Wondrland.!Help
- !Wondrland.!Run
- !Wondrland.!Sprites
- !Wondrland.CheckRAM
- !Wondrland.CheckRAMFS
